Typewriter Mode

Typewriter mode keeps the cursor vertically centered on screen at all times. As you keep typing, the text scrolls up while the line you're on stays pinned to the middle — just like an old typewriter, locking your attention onto the current line.

Note

Shortcut: Ctrl+Alt+T to toggle; you can also leave it always on via the "Appearance" group in 07-Settings/01-General-Settings.

What It Solves

  • Less visual fatigue: your eyes don't have to jump between the top and the middle of the screen
  • Sustained focus: the current line is always centered, while surrounding text naturally falls out of view
  • No more manual scrolling: when writing long documents, you don't need to reach for the scroll wheel

How to Enable

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+T to toggle typewriter mode immediately; or
  2. Open Settings (Ctrl+,) → "General" tab → "Appearance" group → turn on the "Typewriter mode" toggle.
Tip

Typewriter mode is compatible with both "live preview" and "source" editing modes and can be layered on top of either; it also works with Vim mode enabled.

When to Use It

  • Long-form writing, essays, journals
  • Focused tasks that need a flow state
  • Writers who prefer a centered cursor
